Yes that is an Aurora P47, not the best quality of moldings but then it is about 60 years old! and the only P47 that I know of thats even close to 1/87 (1/88 approx).
Ian

Hello Ian,

the P-47 was also availebale from the firms 'Comet' and 'Temco'. I suppose that all three pruducts came out of the same mould, because the scale is the same. And besides, in earlier time it was usual between the different firms to swap the sprues for packing them in own boxes.

Heinz

Actually, mould swapping is a feature of modern times, in the old days that only happened between the various country divisions of one company, like f.e. Revell's Advent and Lodela corporations in Latin and South America.

Aurora came into the Comet moulds the old fashioned way, they bought the company and even did revise some moulds.

What was common was using a second party for the actual moulding since not all hobby companies had their own factory, model railroad maker Athearn (now a part of Horizon Hobby) was one of those contractors (also working for Life Like, Marusan, UPC and countless others) and still holds the old Adams moulds.

Cheers,

Jens O.

Hi Ian,

i just noticed one thing you could improve. The main rotor blades sag a little in the resting position.

Cheers

Hi Ralf - yes that is true. I tried bending them with hot water and a hairdryer but they seemed very resistant to bending so rather than push it too far and ruin the rotor blades I just bent them a little and left it at that.

Hi Ian, i just carefully bent them between thumb, middle- and index finger, worked fine.
